Joseph Madison Johns
was a son of Jeremiah H. Johns (son of Jeremiah Johns and Levicy _____) and Mary Ann McClellan (dau. of Andrew C. McClellan and Sarah Edwards). He was born on 7 Aug. 1834 in Wayne, Ga. and died on 11 April 1905 in Brantley.  He was 70 years old. Joseph is buried on 11 April 1905 in Bachlott Cemetery, Brantley, Ga.

He married first Ellender Courson Ellen, dau. of Joshua Courson and Mary Sweat, on 11 Aug. 1859 in Charleton when 25 years old (Ellender Ellen was 19 years old). Ellender Courson Ellen b. on 1 Nov. 1839; d. on 22 Sep. 1876 in Brantley, Fl, 36 years old; bur. in Bachlott Cemetery, Brantley, FL.

Joseph M Johns enlisted July 1862, Company B, 21st Ga Cavalry, in Charlton Co Ga.  He was wounded in May 1864 and sent home by the doctor. Mustered out 9 Apr 1865 at home. Witness J J Johns who said he is unable to work.
